Meet The Generic Moe Girls Of “Gakkou Gurashi!”

Character designs for the revolutionary upcoming anime where moe girls fight zombies, Gakkou Gurashi, seems to have suffered from Manga Time Kirara’s influences as there’s a lot of Kiniro Mosaic in the style.
Compared to their original manga designs, the girls have been very lolified. Not that this was ever a series to take seriously, but morphing characters out of their original form into a more fetishized one is not a step in the right direction. The designs also seem to take cues from Kiniro Mosaic, as the twintailed girl is almost like Aya decided to dye her hair purple and go fight zombies.
On a general level, the designs aren’t particularly captivating or rewarding. They’re overly conventional giant-eyed, colored hair, silly uniform. It’s nice that there’s at least three varieties of outfit based on these character designs, giving the designs some level of variety.
With no unique visual charms, Gakkou Gurashi has to hope its characters’ personalities and the story they are set within are sufficient and capable of compelling an audience and making this series something more than a forgettable bump in the seasonal road.
Gakkou Gurashi airs July as the work of Lerche, the studio behind ongoing Assassination Classroom.
